About

Juliet Barrus, a native of Kinston, North Carolina, received her Bachelors degree in art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She continued in the Fine Arts Program in Art and Design at East Carolina University and later attended the New York School of Design. Over the years she has pursued her study with various artists across the country.

Juliet paints in both watercolors and oils preferring oil paint because of its ability for a bolder application of paint. Her watercolors, which reflect her training in architectural rendering are mostly color studies for her oil paintings. Her style reflects her years of understudy with Sarah Blakeslee Speight whom she credits with ‘teaching her to see’. She has also traveled extensively and spent much time under the tutor-ledge of Scott Christensen, Ovanes Berberian and Kevin Mcpherson.

Her paintings are the result of a consuming desire to capture on canvas vivid color, light and imagination. In her search for a style that expresses her interpretation of nature and a greater understanding of fundamental art principles, she has done extensive study of the techniques and palettes of the Old Masters. Her work has been particularly influenced by the techniques of Boudin, Degas and Pissaro. Mrs Barrus’ paintings are included in many private and corporate collections.
